The Pitseng Trust was established in 1998 by women in Johannesburg who were inspired by Mama Cash in the Netherlands and the Global Fund for Women. As a dedicated women's fund, its major goal is to support and build the capacity of local women's organizations, especially those working on income generation and economic development through grantmaking, training, and capacity building. Past successes include training and mentoring women's groups through an initiative termed Nthweshe kego Rweshe Women's Initiatives and making grants to small community-based organizations. This grant increase will support the grantee in appointing a new executive director and to introduce systems that will help it become more effective.
