The U.S.-Mexico Border Philanthropy Partnership was launched in 2002 with a vision toward improving the quality of life in the U.S.-Mexico border region. For its first six years, the partnership was run as a project of the Synergos Institute and mainly focused on building community philanthropy institutions. In 2008, the partnership became an independent, locally driven, binational entity. Its membership expanded to involve other types of foundations, corporate giving programs, philanthropic individuals, academics, and nonprofit organizations in the border region. Goals for the next two years are to: 1) catalyze new and more effective leadership in the border region; 2) offer a robust member services program; 3) create a diversified and socially responsible membership base; 4) expand and strengthen relationships and organizations collaborating across the border; 5) enhance communication to become the voice for philanthropy in the border region; and 6) establish a sustainable organization with diverse revenue streams.
