The program goal is to strengthen leadership in the nonprofit sector in Central and Eastern Europe. To this end, the Trust for Civil Society in Central and Eastern Europe will partner with several European foundations to support fellowships for Central and Eastern European nonprofit leaders with their counterparts in Western Europe. The fellowships aim to build the capacity of participating organizations through developing the professional skills of key staff members. At the same time, the fellowships will initiate and deepen cooperation between Western and Eastern European organizations. In 2008-2010, 24 fellows from 13 Eastern European countries have benefited from the program by improving their professional skills, developing important contacts with peers in Western and Eastern Europe, and sharing these new skills and contacts with their own organizations.
