Grant Period: 1/1/2010 to 12/31/2012
Program: Civil Society

The Institute for Healing of Memories was created to contribute to the healing of individuals and communities affected by the political conflict and violence during apartheid and to share South Africa's experience of dealing with its past with the broader international community. The institute's core program is its Healing of Memories workshops, which provide a safe space for dialogue and openness to deal with issues such as reconciliation, forgiveness, dealing with the past, restorative justice, peace building, and conflict resolution. Past achievements include working with youth to teach them about the past and reconciliation and conducting healing workshops for refugees, prisoners, and people infected by HIV/AIDS. This grant will assist the institute to continue with these activities and strengthen its partnership and collaboration with various institutions that implement programs related to healing and reconciliation.
