Populari

Amount: $60,000
Grant Period: 7/1/2010 to 6/30/2012
Program: Civil Society
Program Area: Central/Eastern Europe and Russia
Geographic Focus: Bosnia and Herzegovina

The project goal is to improve the quality and effectiveness of policy development and implementation in Bosnia-Herzegovina. To this end, the Centre for Socio-Economic Studies "Populari," a think tank established in late 2007, promotes informed debate on social, economic, and political developments through a variety of activities and analytical reports. During the grant period, the center will carry out field-based studies and assessments and stimulate discussion of policy issues through seminars, public presentations, and bilateral meetings. The center will focus on monitoring and promoting European Union integration and accession; the ownership and management of state property and how this complicates Bosnia-Herzegovina's state-building efforts; and working with young people in high schools and colleges to stimulate critical thinking about the country's future. In 2008-2010, the center produced important reports as well as a documentary film based on solid, field-based research and covering such timely issues as the country's progress toward European Union accession and its inclusion in the European Union's visa-free regime.
