The city of Flint is facing a significant public safety challenge. Crime and violence are increasing across the city, while the city's budget crisis has caused a simultaneous reduction in the police force and public safety resources. Mayor Dayne Walling is addressing the issue by reviving community policing and neighborhood foot patrols. The Michigan State University School of Criminal Justice will provide training, technical assistance, and evaluation of the Flint 21st Century Community Policing effort.
