Founded in 1928 as an art school and incorporated in 1930, the Flint Institute of Arts operates in the DeWaters Art Center building on the cultural center campus. The grantee's 2006 renovation and expansion added new galleries, increased studio space, and created new public gathering spaces. The updated facility and amenities, unique collections and special exhibits, and wide array of educational programs and studio instruction continue to attract growing numbers of visitors. Last year, the grantee had over 125,000 museum visitors and program participants from throughout the region. This grant will provide operating support to the Flint Institute of Arts to support exhibitions, educational programming, and the art school.
